Pigment Reduction Q & A

What is pigment reduction?

Melanin is the pigment found in your skin that’s responsible for color. If your cells that make melanin become damaged or are unhealthy, you may develop patches of discolored skin. Pigment reduction is a treatment offered by Dr. Chou and her medical aestheticians to reduce the discoloration of your skin to improve skin tone and look.

What is Lumecca?

Lumecca is a medical tool Dr. Chou and her medical aesthetic team use for pigment reduction. The technologically advanced tool uses IPL energy to improve your complexion.

Dr. Chou uses Lumecca to fix a number of skin flaws, including:

  • Sun and age spots
  • Freckles
  • Spider veins
  • Port wine stains
  • Rosacea

IPL energy targets the darkened skin and destroys it. Lumecca has a range of settings, making it safe to use on all skin types, and can be used on your face, neck, arms, and legs.

What can I expect during treatment with Lumecca?

Lumecca is a pain-free procedure. You may feel a slight electric sensation when the light energy hits the target area, but no discomfort. Your treatment area may be warm and red immediately following your session, but these side effects disappear within an hour.

Over the next couple of days, the skin over the treatment area darkens. Within two weeks, the pigmented skin flakes off.

How many treatments do I need?

Dr. Chou determines the number of treatments you need based on your skin and your desired goals. You can expect an improvement in your skin after one treatment, but a series of treatment ensures better results.

Protecting your skin from the sun may help prevent various types of skin pigmentation, such as age spots and melasma. To help maintain your even skin tone, Dr. Chou recommends you use sunscreen daily and cover up with clothes, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses if you plan on being out in the sun for a while to prevent further pigmentation after treatment.

With Lumecca, Dr. Chou and her team of medical aestheticians can give you radiant, flawless skin in just two weeks. To learn more about pigment reduction, call AVEC Eye Center or use the online booking tool to schedule a consultation today.
